I purchased this to make my lap swimming less boring, but on a whim, decided to also take it with me to Hawaii to use while snorkeling. Omg - I'm so glad I did! I sometimes get nervous and uptight in the ocean because I've read too many stories of habitancy getting dragged out to sea by riptides, pounded by rogue waves, raked over the coral, etc., etc. I had loaded a consolidate of Hawaiian music Cd's onto the Shuffle and that music just thoroughly relaxed me in the water.
I found myself kicking rhythmically to the beat while gliding over the reef and noticing that I felt as comfortable in the water as the colorful fish I was observing below me. I came to a shallow underwater shelf and observed two turtles calmly feeding only a few feet from me. The music seemed to be serenading them as they enjoyed their meal and I wondered if they could of course hear it too. I stayed there slowly swaying back and forth in the waves, watching them for quite a while. It was just a magical experience. I extremely recommend it to anyone.
Just be sure to make your mind up a safe site and plan your snorkeling route in advance because once the ocean's magic combines with the music, you'll of course lose yourself in the palpate and it becomes easy to forget all about paying attention to security issues!
